LIFE COMMITMENT

When medical students complete an Ecuador experience, it is a time to ponder their experience and contemplate how to most efficiently live out and fulfill their destinies. This process will certainly take place throughout the days and years as a medical student, and then throughout their life as a physician. Hopefully the process of obtaining and assimilating new ideas and information while attempting to live conscientiously for social justice will be a ceaseless journey. It is the goal of PFH to play its respective part in this cultivation.
More concretely, it is the hope of PFH that these second year medical students will be excited to share their blessings with other young medical students and take on leadership within the organization. The most fundamental aspect of giving back to future generations starts with returning to PCOM and deciding to serve as an active member of PFH. Returning students/volunteers are expected to (with the assistance of their upper year colleagues), plan presentations for the incoming MSI DO students, mentor them, help them in their application process, then help conduct interviews and continue to volunteer. Many students return to our Ecuadorian program as 2nd, 3rd & 4th year medical students, residents and practicing doctors.
It’s NOT JUST ONE YEAR: PFH is looking for volunteers who are seeking a long term service opportunity, those who want to be physicians who are always giving of their time/talent and treasure, and/or persons who want to seriously consider doing so. |
